Fine Arts

Our FINE ARTS program is an integral part of the learning experience of every child at Reece Academy. Choral music, Dance - ballet, tap, Suzuki-violin, Creative Drama, Visual Art.  The arts have long been recognized as an important part of a well-rounded education which naturally engages students. By weaving the arts into and through our content in naturally aligned ways, we are providing relevance to student learning, and giving them an opportunity to connect their world to our classrooms.

Field trips, Wellness Gym/P.E., the Computer Lab give our students many opportunities to integrate classroom lesson.  By these integration, we can ensure that students are learning in a way that meets their own unique cultural, social, emotional and intellectual needs.

Direct Instruction

Our DIRECT INSTRUCTION (DI) program is a structured “phonics” based reading, language and mathematics program. Each lesson involves a constant two-way communication between the student and the teacher.  Our classroom teachers engage in daily learning centers which includes an advance Technology Integration using Chromebooks and Promethean Boards.  A learning center is typically a designated area within the classroom that provides students with exciting and interesting experiences to practice, enrich, reteach, and enhance their learning.  These types of centers are filled with manipulatives, art materials, books, and other instructional tools.  

The DI program has received recognition and has been shown to be very effective in teaching fundamental academic skills to students of diverse backgrounds and abilities

Montessori Instruction

Our MONTESSORI INSTRUCTION learn through a sensorial approach, manipulating objects as they master complex reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. In this hands-on approach to learning, students work as their own pace, frequently choosing their own class work with guidance from their teachers. They contain many places for children to learn and play, in many different ways: by themselves, in pairs, in small groups, in large groups, inside, outside, at tables, on the floor. All items in the environment are scaled to the child’s size, including furniture, shelves, utensils, dishware, cleaning implements and the Montessori materials themselves, which includes an advance Technology Integration using Chromebooks and Promethean Boards There is no focal center to the classroom; this reflects that the teacher is not the focus of the children’s attention, but that they are all one community together.

Students in the Montessori program may receive all instruction in English or in Spanish. Multi-age and multi-grade students work together.
